We are affiliated with Appalachian Chapter of AADE, a non-profit volunteer organization whose mission is to provide the forum for the dissemination of practical drilling technology.

Learn real-world practices and safety protocols in our state-of-the-art facilities including a rig floor simulator, Marcellus Shale Energy and Environment lab, EQT Midstream Engineering lab, Berkshire Hathaway Gas Transmission and Storage lab, Leidecker Drilling Fluid lab and Dominion Energy Natural Gas Measurement lab to produce expert engineers.

Apply your engineering expertise to the phases of oil and gas production from reservoir development, drilling and pumping systems to well stimulation and storage.

PETROLEUM PROPERTIES

Develop ways to safely extract, transport and process petroleum and natural gas for maximum efficiency and benefit and very minimal environmental impact.

EVALUATION OF OIL AND GAS RESERVES

Calculate the recovery potential of oil and gas reservoirs and predict reservoir performance under a variety of production methods to achieve maximum reserve conservation information.

Nature of Program

Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering focuses on the design and application aspects of discovering, producing, and transporting oil and natural gas. Preparing students in geological principles to apply both conventional and specialized engineering techniques, the curriculum emphasizes a strong foundation in mathematics, science, and geology, with additional focus on managerial and social skills. Students undergo rigorous coursework and lab work, gain practical experience through industry proximity and internships, and receive individual mentoring.

Nick Lapinski

Nick Lapinski, a petroleum and natural gas student with a minor in geology, from Corry, PA has used his grit, perseverance and personality to become the president of WVU’s Society of Petroleum Engineers. Lapinski has also secured an internship with Nextier Oilfield Solutions in West Texas.
