WVU partnering with Boeing Corp. to offer graduate level programs to employees

One of the America’s leading aerospace manufacturing companies is joining forces with West Virginia University, one of the country’s leading public research universities, to offeronline graduate degreesin five niche disciplines that match the company’s needs.

The agreement waives the application fee for Boeing employees, and honors in-state tuition rates for Boeing employees around the globe, Associate Provost Sue Day–Perroots said in announcing the program.

“These graduate degrees are a perfect fit for employees who want to advance their careers with Boeing,” Day-Perroots said. “Boeing employees can take most of the coursework online and, in some cases, supplement it with some on-campus, hands-on residencies. We are very excited to be partnering with Boeing in this strategic venture.”

Day-Perroots said arrangements like these bring value to corporations by offering the expertise and knowledge that WVU has in niche areas. “This is part of the University’s expanding role of assisting companies and corporations like Boeing that want to build on their strengths – whether through an academic partnership, a research endeavor or testing a new discovery.”

The master’s/graduate level degrees being offered to Boeing employees beginning this summer/fall are from three WVU colleges: business data analysis, forensic accounting/fraud investigation and business administration in the College of Business and Economics; integrated marketing communications, Reed College of Media; and software engineering, Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources.

The master’s level program in “big data” is focused on preparing students in statistical techniques, data mining, utilizing databases and analytical tools. The graduate program in forensic accounting/fraud is designed to meet the demand for specialized auditors that can help detect prevent and deter fraud. The master’s in business administration provides experiential learning, interaction with faculty and networking with classmates.

Students who enroll in the integrated marketing communications program will learn to re-align their marketing activities to ensure a constant flow of information to consumers from a variety of media across a variety of platforms.

Software engineering professionals will gain graduate-level expertise in the growing information technology field.
